Matt's dad Don was a used car dealer in Charlotte, North Carolina who eventually opened his own lot, Southern Car Locators. Matt spent his high school years there detailing cars, prepping inventory for sale, and taking the listing photos.
Over the summers, if it was a Tuesday, Matt was probably at Statesville Auto Auction helping transport cars back to the dealership. One side perk of being a dealer's kid: Matt drove a different vehicle to school constantly, which included some fun lifted Jeep Wranglers, a couple of 3-Series BMWs, and a nice little black Acura Integra. That probably explains where he started enjoying being part of this industry.
After studying business at NC State, Matt joined KGI Solutions, the software company his dad and brother had started. KGI's flagship product is a dealer management system (DMS), and the company also builds websites and marketing tools for independent used car dealers across the Carolinas.
Twenty years later, Matt has designed and published more than 800 dealer websites, and he still builds new ones every week. Add the high school years watching Don run Southern Car Locators, and Matt has been in and around the Carolina independent dealer world for 25+ years.
After more than two decades watching the Carolina used car market from the dealer side, Matt saw a gap on the buyer side. Something local. Something smarter. Something built for NC car shoppers, not a national aggregator's algorithm.
Year, make, model, zip code stopped being enough a long time ago. Shoppers want to search by lifestyle, by budget, by what actually fits their day. UsedNC and the rest of the KGI Network of sites are built around that.
Matt lives in Apex with his wife Brooke, who has worked at KGI for more than 15 years, and their two boys. When he's not coding with AI or researching new articles, he can be found at a Wolfpack game, watching the boys play soccer, or heading to Wrightsville whenever there's a free weekend.
